Inimi
offers you an authentic immersion in Atar’s semi-nomadic life, in a hostel and
camping area at the heart of the desert, surrounded by the region’s mountain
chain.
The host,
Sidi Ahmed Nemoud, a former nomad of the neighbouring Tagant region, started the
Inimi adventure after spending over a decade as a translator between French
guides and local camel owners, before the decline of Mauritanian tourism in
2007.
Deeply
attached to his native land, Sidi Ahmed decided to stay in the region despite adverts
and to devote his life to its development instead of migrating to the capital.
Resisting to droughts and other shocks that hit the region, he acquired lands
to develop Inimi, a project to which he gave the name of the high dune where he
spent his youth.
Inimi
offers you comfortable rooms with twin beds and AC, a large outdoor space that
can hold up to 17 camping cars, an equipped kitchen, showers and wifi access to
check emails and exchange messages during your stay.
At Inimi,
you can also enjoy local dishes prepared by Sidi Ahmed’s wife including Mauritanian
Couscous and Tajines, local bread backed in a traditional oven, camel meat, et
many more.
Sidi Ahmed
offers you the best value for money in the region during your stay and for
tours around the region in SUVs or trekking. With him, you will be able to dive
in and gain insight on the nomadic life in the desert while touring around the
main cultural and historical sites of Mauritania.
In addition
to the organised tours, quads are available to admire the landscapes
surrounding Inimi camp.
